The theme for the 2027 calendar is “Break Through” — celebrating resilience, survival, hope and the incredible ability of cats to overcome difficult beginnings. The calendar features 16 beautiful cat models, each with their own unique story. And while their stories may be different, they all have something in common:
They needed someone to give them a chance.
Ruby & Athena – two little survivors close to my heart
This calendar is particularly special to me because I am a foster with Kitty Care Durban, and I get to see first-hand the difference that rescue and foster care can make.Ruby and Athena are two of my own foster kittens.These tiny girls came to Kitty Care after being rescued from a backyard breeding situation — a start in life that left them incredibly vulnerable.When they arrived, they were tiny. Ruby weighed just 802g, while little Athena weighed only 393g.Athena was particularly fragile and was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, requiring specialist veterinary care and close monitoring.But these two little girls fought.
With veterinary treatment, nourishment, warmth, care and lots of love, they were given the opportunity to grow, recover and simply be kittens. Their story is a small example of what rescue is really about. Sometimes saving a life doesn’t look dramatic. Sometimes it looks like taking home two tiny kittens and saying:
“You matter. We’re going to give you a chance.”

As a Kitty Care Durban foster, I know just how rewarding, exhausting, heartbreaking and incredibly special rescue can be. There are always more cats waiting. More kittens needing help. More emergencies. More little lives that deserve a chance.
